Route 66 Villages Community Easter Egg Hunt Oklahoma Route 66 Museum by Larry Syverson is licensed with CC BY-SA 2.0 When Easter time rolls around, the eggs will roll out at the Route 66 Village's Community Easter Egg Hunt at 3770 Southwest Blvd. in Tulsa. Bring your kids to hunt for the golden eggs. There will be 10,000 eggs hidden at this year's event, which takes place on April 1, 2023, at 11 a.m. After the Easter egg hunt, you can explore the open-air museum, Route 66 Historical Village. The Visitor's Center is a replica of a 1920's Phillips 66 gas station. There's also a restored Frisco 4500 Meteor Steam Engine and a Pullman train passenger car from circa 1929. You can view vintage trolleys and rail cars, climb aboard a restored train caboose, and more. The Visitor's Center is open Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. Oxley Nature Center For a place to connect with the natural world, take the kids to Oxley Nature Center at 6700 Mohawk Blvd. This nature preserve stretches 800 acres along the south bank of Bird Creek. It supports natural habitats, flora and fauna, forests, and animal wildlife. It offers a range of all-ages events, including Explore the Fauna — a monthly walk exploring plants in their habitat. This Easter egg hunt will have a whopping 20,000 eggs to find, with each egg containing prizes and candy. The hunt is on Apr. 8, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. SUPERFUN Saturday: Camp Philbrook Bring the whole family to enjoy SUPERFUN Saturday: Camp Philbrook hosted by the Philbrook Museum of Art at 2727 S. Rockford Road. This fun outdoor spring event combines art and nature and offers many summer-camp-inspired activities. The galleries and gardens will have nostalgic arts and crafts with nature explorations, singalongs, and games. The kids can blow giant bubbles from a kiddie pool filled with bubble soap and have fun with other children playing old-fashioned games, such as a potato sack race. The whole museum will also be open for exploration. Get ready for a fun family day on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Camp is free for museum members and young people 17 and under. Adults can also attend with general admission tickets to the museum for $17.00. Check out its ongoing outdoor event Little Garden Explorers — a playtime for children under 5. Spark wonder in your little ones at this drop-in event, which happens every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., except on days with inclement weather. Let's Go Urban Scavenger Hunt Tulsa For a fun time exploring the city with your family this spring, embark on the Let's Go Urban Scavenger Hunt, which starts at 1 S. Boston Ave. This event is an app-based, self-guided scavenger hunt you can do at your own pace. You'll work with your kids to complete missions and try to score the most points to make it to the top. You'll explore downtown Tulsa and try to complete missions through action-packed steps. You'll have to find GPS check-in clues, answer trivia questions, do fun video challenges, and hunt down specific objects to complete the scavenger hunt. The hunt is $10 per player, and you can choose any time that's convenient for you and start wherever you want. Easter Candy Hunt at the Oklahoma Aquarium For an Easter hunt with a cool twist, check out the festivities at the Oklahoma Aquarium at 300 Aquarium Drive in Jenks. This Easter hunt will happen in the riverfront backyard of the aquarium. They'll have two start times for different age groups so everyone can enjoy the fun of a fair hunt. Eco-friendly bags filled with candy will replace plastic eggs to help protect the environment. After the hunt, kids can play on the aquarium playground. You can take them inside to experience the wonders of marine life on display, which includes thousands of animals. The Easter Candy Hunt is included with regular admission. The costs are as follows: Adults: $19.95. Children (3 to 12): $15.95. Military (with valid ID): $15.95. Seniors (62 and older): $15.95. Children 2 and under: free. Thanksgiving has a long history with roots in European harvest festivals. In the U.S., it's held on the fourth Thursday in November, this year falling on Nov. 24. If you’re in Broken Arrow in northeastern Oklahoma and the Tulsa Metropolitan Area and you’re looking for some family activities to celebrate the holiday this year, then read on to learn more about a few fun options that you and your kids can enjoy together. Rose District If you've got family in town for the Thanksgiving weekend, you'll want to take them to Broken Arrow's quaint Rose District. This is the downtown arts and entertainment district, which is located along Main Street and is a great place to spend a day with the whole family. You'll have plenty of places for shopping, dining, hot drinks, and fun activities, such as visiting museums and art galleries or checking out a show at the Performing Arts Center. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to try some seasonal treats and maybe even get started on Christmas shopping. The Rose District's shops have a lot to offer, with clothing and accessory stores, vintage and antique shops, and specialty shops, such as Spoke House Bicycles and the Rocket Fizz Soda Pop and Candy Shop. While the kids choose their favorite candies, some of the adults in your group might want to check out the Succulent Shop, which is a bar where you can make succulent or plant arrangements while sipping on a beverage. Philbrook Festival Philbrook Museum of Art - garden and house by whiterabbitart is licensed with CC BY-SA 2.0 The Philbrook Museum of Art is an enchanting Italian Renaissance-style villa built in the 1920s amidst 23 acres of beautiful grounds. In the late 1930s, the villa and property were gifted by its owner to become the beloved Tulsa art museum it is today. It’s located at 2727 S. Rockford Road in Tulsa, only 20 minutes from Broken Arrow. It’s open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is only $12 for adults while youth 17 and under are free, making it a great place to take the whole family. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving Day, but you'll definitely want to check out the Philbrook Festival, which is returning this year in late November and runs for six weeks. Member tickets are available from Nov. 2, and public tickets are available from Nov. 9. It features a 15-foot Christmas tree at the entrance, trees and decorations inside the villa, thousands of lights illuminating the villa's exterior and back gardens, as well as art displays, live music performances, and holiday decor to set the festive mood. Check out the museum's La Villa restaurant for seasonal food and drinks. Rhema Christmas Lights Extravaganza Rhema Christmas Lights Extravaganza lights up at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Eve on Nov. 23 and runs until Jan. 2. This spectacle is free to attend and located at the 110-acre Rhema campus, where nearly three million lights will be lit up in extravagant displays. This event attracts around 500,000 visitors a year from around Oklahoma. At the extravaganza, you'll find a Christmas tree forest, 3D angels and reindeer, a gingerbread family, and more. Acting as a focal piece of the display is the Rhema Park bridge, which is beautifully lit up by arching overhead lights. This all-ages event will delight both kids and grown-ups with its magical displays. Hot chocolates, kettle corn, and funnel cakes will be available to buy in the park, along with lighted toys for the kids to enjoy at home. There are also carriage rides offered at the event with two types of carriages. Open-top carriage rides are $10 per person, with kids five and under free. Or go with a private carriage, which is $50 and can fit up to four adults. Is there a better way to spend an evening than enjoying a light display with your family? Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run and Walk The Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run and Walk is an annual event that happens on the day after Thanksgiving. It’s a post-Thanksgiving tradition that is a great way to up your steps after a day of eating turkey, potatoes, pies, and other delights. The Turkey Trot follows a course through downtown Tulsa that starts and ends at the grand Christmas tree at the BOK Center. The timed 5K race costs $45 after Oct. 24, while the Fun Run, which isn't timed, starts at $30. Special pricing is available for youths aged 18 and under. All participants of the Turkey Trot 5K and Fun Run will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt and post-race treats along with a great finisher medal to celebrate. You can enter the race to see how fast you can make it, or you get some friends together or invite family to join in the fun run to participate in this local tradition. After the race, you can check out the Tulsa Winterfest celebrations happening downtown for even more festivities and some Black Friday shopping. Then head home to Broken Arrow for a dinner of Thanksgiving leftovers and turkey sandwiches. Summertime is finally here. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the kids are out of school. This is the time of year when families can get together and enjoy some fun outdoor activities while taking advantage of the warm weather and long days. Here are some fun local festivals and events taking place this summer for your family to enjoy in the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, area. July 16 — Taste of Summer Image by Jenny Smith is licensed with Unsplash License This year is the 20th anniversary of Broken Arrow's Taste of Summer festival. The gala features all-you-can-eat Blue Bell ice cream, live entertainment, and a marketplace featuring various food and merchant vendors. There is also a kids' zone with activities and crafts for children. Taste of Summer takes place at the Central Park Community Center in Broken Arrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 16. Admission is $8 per person at the gate, and children 2 and under are free. July 29 — 31 — Slamboree Truck, Car & Bike Show Car enthusiasts will enjoy the Slamboree Truck, Car & Bike Show, one of the Midwest's largest car shows. Visitors can see hundreds of cars, trucks, street rods, rat rods, and motorcycles. Judging for the event takes place throughout the day on Saturday, and awards are announced Sunday at 2 p.m. The Slamboree Truck, Car & Bike Show is held at the Tulsa Raceway Park, 3101 N. Garnett Road. Proceeds from the event benefit Toys for Tots and other charities. Spectator passes start at $10 per day. Aug. 12 — 13 — Woodcarving & Folk Arts Festival The Eastern Oklahoma Woodcarvers Association sponsors the Woodcarving and Arts Festival in the Broken Arrow Rose District. Observe wood and folk art displays, see live crafting demonstrations, and participate in seminars during this hands-on event. Featured arts include woodcarving, weaving, stained glass, jewelry, quilting, beading, and more. The event is held at the Broken Arrow Community Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 12 and 13. Admission is free. Aug. 25 — 27 — Blue Whale Comedy Festival This summer, get ready for a rollicking fun time at the Blue Whale Comedy Festival. Performances include stand-up comedy, improv, podcasting, music, and more. The festival headquarters are at Cain's Ballroom, 423 N. Main St. in Tulsa, and events will occur in various venues throughout the Tulsa Arts District. Tickets start at $50 for a day pass. Sept. 10 — 11 — Artfest Tulsa's Artfest is a fine art show and sale sponsored by the  German-American Society of Tulsa. Explore drawings, paintings, sculptures, and many other types of art during this two-day event while listening to a live performance by a local musician. Artfest is found at the GAST Center, 1429 Terrace Drive, in Tulsa. The show takes place on Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sept. 11 from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Sept. 18 — Tulsa Fairytale Ball Kids will be delighted to join the Disney Princesses at the Tulsa Fairytale Ball and participate in activities like storytime, singing and dance lessons, crafts, and meet and greet opportunities. Children can wear their favorite princess dress or costume, and bring cameras to capture many photos since the kids have the chance to meet every Disney Princess at this interactive event. The ball is held at the Mike Fretz Event Center, 11545 East 43rd St., Tulsa, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20. Sept. 24 — Everybody's Favorite BBQ & Hot Sauce Festival Everybody's Favorite BBQ & Hot Sauce Festival is a three-day event that travels throughout the United States, honoring local K-12 teachers and serving up delicious barbecue. The fair's menu includes ribs, brisket, fried fish and shrimp, and barbecue or fried chicken. Nibble on tasty cornbread and select from side dishes like collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and baked beans. Between bites of savory barbecue and other tasty fair food, enjoy musical performances from legendary musicians each day of the event. The festival arrives in Broken Arrow on Sept. 24. Friday at 8 p.m., attendees can see performances by Tiffany, All-4-One, and Taylor Dane. Saturday showtimes start at 4 p.m. and include performances by artists After 7 and Morris Day. Sunday's lineup begins at 3 p.m. and includes tribute bands honoring Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, and Marvin Gaye. Everybody's Favorite BBQ & Hot Sauce Festival is held at Events Park, 21101 East 101st St., Broken Arrow. Tickets start at $20. Sept. 30 — Oct. 2 — Broken Arrow Rose Festival Wrap up your summer fun by attending the Broken Arrow Rose Festival from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. This free family-focused weekend extravaganza features roses, art, and music, and ends with a kite flying demonstration. Friday and Saturday's events are held on Main Street in the city's beautiful Rose District. Enjoy talented street performances over the weekend, observe the sidewalk-chalk art contest, and sample many tasty treats from food trucks and vendors. Main Street shops are open during the festival. The celebration wraps up on Sunday at the BA Event Park. Children can decorate free kites at the Kids' Zone over the weekend for Sunday's kite-flying finale. Sept. 30 — Oct. 1 — Chalk It Up! An Art Festival Chalk It Up Art Festival is a traditional event during the Broken Arrow Rose Bowl Festival. At 5 p.m. on Sept. 30, artists begin working on their chalk art on festival streets. They work until 8:30 p.m., with festival activities occurring around them, then pause for the evening. Artists resume at 9 a.m. Saturday morning and finish by 2 p.m. The artwork is judged Saturday afternoon, with winners selected in the following categories: Best 3D art (by age group) Best interpretation of theme (by age group) Best use of materials (by age group) People's Choice Best in Show Adults color a 10'x10' area and children ages 6 to 11 color a 6'x6' square.
